Abstract

In this chapter I will focus on the possible relationship between social capital and health. The chapter will scrutinize the most important pathways linking social capital and health. The chapter will also discuss the significance of the welfare state for this relationship and account for the possible downsides of social capital in relation to health. Finally, some initial country-level associations between social capital and health will be presented.
