Abstract

Palestinian supporters praise the PFLP as a leading resistance movement of the 1960s and 1970s. For many Israelis, the party represents one of the most ruthless terrorist organizations in modern history. Following the end of the Cold War and the Israeli– Palestinian rapprochement of the Oslo Accords, the Marxist PFLP had considerable difficulty identifying its place within a transforming political landscape. However, to this day, the PFLP maintains significant support on the ground and remains the most inf luential PLO faction next to Fatah (table 4.1).
