Abstract
Despite significant cultural, legal and political changes in Southern Europe in the past four decades, the dominant notion of family has retained many of its traditional, rigid and heteronormative features. This is particularly evident when one examines politicians’ statements when demands concerning relationships — what I call “relational claims” — are put forward, and these are a central element of LGBT activism.
