Autonomy, Complexity, and Networks of Learning

Abstract

Autonomy, as it will be argued in this chapter, is much more than an individual trait, but emergent from the complex interplay between the individual and the social context. Borrowing from the Theory of Complex Systems, this chapter aims at providing evidence of the striking role of the social environment in the constitution of one’s own voice. Therefore, this chapter intends to offer a new perspective from which to reflect on what can be understood as autonomous behaviour.
