Abstract

Rs in the corpus seem to prefer to respond to C’s requests in a more complex way rather than to restrict themselves to just giving the information they have been asked for, as in the examples described in Chapter 3. This chapter deals with responses that have been extended right after a first response has been provided. In particular a distinction will be made between:

  • Responses extended only by apologies for not being able to provide the service requested.

  • Responses extended through the addition of more information than is actually requested.

  • Responses extended by the offer of a solution to the product requested.

  • Responses extended through an account.
