Abstract
Part IV of the book surveyed the vibrant development of informal market integration in Eurasia. As we showed in Part II, formal intergovernmental projects are much less developed. This is hardly surprising, given the enormous heterogeneity and size of Eurasia: the problem of Eurasian integration in some aspects resembles that of global governance, which is also difficult to achieve. However, there are specific factors and issues associated with intergovernmental cooperation, which can be observed and studied using the Eurasian case. Part V is, therefore, devoted to the political economy of formal intergovernmental cooperation in Eurasia; we start with the impact of political systems.
