“Prince Arthur Spotted Exiting Buckingham Palace!”: The Re-Imagined Worlds of Fanfic Trailers

  • Chapter
Film Remakes, Adaptations and Fan Productions

Abstract

Fanfic (or fanfiction) are stories written by fans for other fans. They use a source text as their point of origin and then explore or alter character relationships, settings or other ingredients of the original work in different and varied ways, with different degrees of divergence from the source becoming readily apparent to the source-knowledgeable reader. Initially, fanfiction stories were mostly shared in print form (in so-called zines or fanzines), but with the rise of the internet they, like so many other fan productions, have moved on into the digital medium, and large online collections of fanfiction can now be readily found online.1
