Abstract
It is well known by now that innovation plays a pivotal role in sustained economic growth and a high standard of living. In spite of this important insight, the first-generation economic growth models (Solow 1956) treated technical change as an exogenous variable, that is, the model did not explain how technology affects the economic growth of an economy. Recognizing this deficiency in neoclassical growth theory, a number of researchers concentrated their attentions on the subject and studied the systems of innovation, which appear to be different in various countries.
