Abstract
Researchers working in the field of comparative education have provided extensive descriptions of national educational systems. Research aimed at identifying the links between the structural characteristics of educational systems and the academic performance of students aged 15 has also developed in recent years, especially since the introduction of PISA surveys. Yet, despite these new developments, very little empirical research has been conducted on curricula and student attitudes. This represents a significant gap in the field since the core function of education is to transmit intellectual skills and knowledge and to develop attitudes that will enable students to enter adult life.
