Abstract
In this penultimate chapter, I will try and tie together my empirical findings with the theoretical context for my study. I have attempted to further the field of social knowledge as well as draw attention to the current social system and the way in which it assists in the reproduction of serious social and individual problems. I’m not moralising anything here; there is nothing wrong with going on holiday, drinking, and generally taking the stress out of life back home. However, I hope the book shows the darker side to this process, and especially for a certain cohort of working-class British tourists, how the holiday can easily become something unexpectedly perverse and dangerous. My thoughts on what I have tried to do begin this chapter and are followed by some methodological reflections. There then follows my conclusion followed by some thematic and theoretical discussions before I offer some recommendations to address these problems.
