The Future of Political Blogging in Egypt: Looking Ahead

  • Chapter
Egyptian Revolution 2.0

Abstract

The five bloggers whose blogs were analyzed in this book were part of a pioneering wave of online activists who planted the seeds for the popular revolution that took place on January 25, 2011, and toppled the corrupt regime of President Hosni Mubarak. Each of these bloggers contributed, in his or her own way, to mobilizing the Egyptian public and revitalizing Egyptian civil society. All five of them were part of the spark that was ignited in the blogs, discussion forums, and chat rooms in the virtual world and spilled over later to the streets, alleys, and squares in the real world, where it turned into a raging fire.
