Abstract
Underpinning the concept of East Asian regional integration is a situation in which the weight of this region in the world economy is expanding even while economic interdependence within the region is growing. Watanabe (2004, 9) demonstrated “the East Asianization of East Asia” based on his analysis of the amount of trade within and without the region, and concluded, “the most important issue now is whether this de facto economic integration can be transformed into a framework for institutionalized integration.”
