Abstract

A large and growing number of foreign students are enrolled in postgraduate degree programs in Cuba. During 2002–2003, about 5000 professionals from approximately 30 countries were studying in different postgraduate courses in Cuba. Of these 5000, about 1000 were enrolled in masters and PhD degree programs.1 A number of Cuban postgraduate courses are offered in Latin American countries. Their universities arrange for Cuban professors to travel and teach the courses requested. In some countries, the Ministry of Education accredits the Cuban degree. Others do not find this necessary. In addition, Cuban professors are invited to take part in teaching postgraduate courses offered by foreign universities. They are also sometimes invited to help with restructuring university policies and programs and with the improvement of management systems.
