Abstract

Multi-touch screen, biometrics, iris recognition, personalised advertising, insect robots, 3D video, e-papers and surface browsing: when Steven Spielberg featured these futuristic technologies in his 2002 sci-fi movie ‘Minority Report’, little did we know that he was mind-bogglingly spot-on as to the possibility of these being plausible technologies in our everyday lives by 2020. Developments in connectivity and convergence will allow us not only to enjoy these cutting-edge technologies with their manifold ground-breaking applications but will also allow us to play and control devices and data by mid-air gestural movements and with holographic immersive technology — in a similar way to what Tom Cruise did in the movie.
