Abstract
If the last half-century has taught us anything, it is that when it comes to commuting to work human beings will put up with considerable expense and discomfort to congregate in one place (the city) to work and disperse to another place (suburbia) to live their private lives. And, if given a choice, most of those people will drive an automobile to have control of their own transit in between the two places instead of using public transportation.
