Discursive Institutional Analytical Strategies

  • Chapter
Research Design in European Studies

Part of the book series: Palgrave Studies in European Union Politics ((PSEUP))

Abstract

This chapter addresses the question of how discursive approaches deal with causality claims in Europeanization. Discourse analysis as a methodological tool is not commonly associated with traditional notions of causality. At the same time discourse analysis is very much directed at the study of causal representations among agents. The puzzle is how we may proceed from the study of discursive causalities towards substantive causal claims.
