Causality in Quantitative Approaches

  • Chapter
Research Design in European Studies

Part of the book series: Palgrave Studies in European Union Politics ((PSEUP))

Abstract

If Europeanization is about the ‘domestic consequences of the process of European integration’ (Radaelli, 2004: 2), then what are the ‘quantitative approaches to Europeanization’? The term can refer to two kinds of research: studies that use quantitative methods to establish causal links in the field of Europeanization, and studies that try to quantify Europeanization.1 This chapter deals with the second kind of studies, in particular those studies that aim at quantitatively measuring the scope and the extent of the Europeanization of national legislation.2
