Age and Pregnancy

  • Chapter

Abstract

In this chapter, we will explore the diverse ways in which women understand the ageing process in relation to pregnancy and parenthood. We will use as a foil for this analysis social clock theory (Neugarten, Moore and Lowe, 1965; Neugarten, 1979, 1996), the idea that individuals make judgements about the timing of life transitions by calibrating them against temporal social norms.
