Abstract

What trends can be drawn out by looking at the three case-studies considered in this study? When examined individually Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary are three unique states each with their own history, language and political culture. What they share is a past connected to the communism of the Soviet Union and the subsequent transition to democratic and liberal economic states. The process of their reintegration into the West offers an opportunity to study the major trends in the spread of Western norms and values.
