Abstract
The work of the truth commission in South Africa is still an unfolding process and the consequences of its operation, actions and results may continue to work themselves out in South Africa for decades to come as democracy and its implications unfold. Perhaps, with hindsight, in ten years time aspects will be uncovered that we did not know about and that we could not possibly have foreseen. Any discussion of the efforts of the TRC in nation building and forging a human rights culture, therefore, must be qualified by these concerns and perspectives.
