Abstract

The themes of this book will, by now, be very obvious to the reader and the author’s enthusiasm for developing and strengthening European health policy will also be obvious. That enthusiasm should not be mistaken for a belief that the EU and its Commission should attempt to tackle every health problem, address every health issue or try to manage Europe’s healthcare systems at a distance. Europe’s role is that of a partner — free of many of the responsibilities that go with the day-to-day management of health-care systems. Long may that remain so.
