Abstract
This book started from the position that issues of culture and identity do matter; they matter in their own right, and they also matter, more specifically, to communities and to those who work with communities. The focus upon cultures, communities and identities at the turn of the millennium, represented more than a contemporary fad, it was argued. The key questions were about how these issues were being addressed, from which perspectives, and with what differing implications for policies and practice.
