Abstract

By 1615, with the expulsions of the last of Spain’s moriscos having supposedly been completed the previous year, the Cortes were ready to turn once again to the gypsy question. Now they picked up the threads of that earlier debate (see Chapter 4, pp. 61–2) which, while the expulsions were in progress, had for more than four years been held largely in abeyance.
