The Armed Forces, Power, and Society: 18 Years of Counterinsurgency in Indian Kashmir

  • Chapter
Democracies at War against Terrorism

Abstract

More than 60 years after the independence of India and Pakistan, the partition of the Indian subcontinent is still not settled, and Kashmir remains a constant source of dispute between the two neighbors. Few conflicts have proved to be as resistant to attempts at solution and nothing, not even the peace process initiated in January of 2004, holds out any hope of a rapid end to hostilities.
