Abstract

Points A-E in the following diagram have appeared various times in this book. Here we use the diagram to depict two views on development. The upper arrow represents raising the per-person possibility frontier through capital accumulation and technical change. The lower arrow represents empowering the poor through education, healthcare, and financial services. Can foreign direct investment (FDI) contribute to shifting upward both arrows in the least developed countries (LDCs)?
