Abstract
Ajman gives yet another view of personal rule in the Emirates. As a small state, Ajman’s history focuses on independence and surviving attempts to take it over. The town of Ajman was one of several coastal colonies established by the Naim in the eighteenth century. Subsequently it was annexed by the Qawasim of Sharja before becoming an independent emirate. The town sits on a piece of territory literally cut out of Sharja and only minutes away from Dubai.
