Abstract
The population of Thailand for the year 2001 was 62.6 million; following the baby boom of the mid-1970s the annual population growth rate totaled 3.2 percent. The adult literacy rate for the same year amounted to 86.8 percent—an increase of 84.4 percent from 1997. However, due to the successful “Family Planning Programme” the annual population growth rate dropped to 0.7 percent from the year 1997.
