Critical Psychiatry and Conflict: Renewing Mental Health Practice

Abstract

One of Donald Kiesler’s conclusions in his book Beyond the disease model of mental disorders is that, ‘We have to stop acquiescing to pontifications that mental disorders are brain diseases’ (Kiesler 1999: 199). He argues that all educated lay persons and scientists of psychopathology must quit professing, or tolerating others who advocate or imply, single causes of mental disorder.
