Abstract
The exploration in this book of the notion of biotic artefact has been conducted in terms of the intimate interplay between the contributions of philosophy, science and its technology. To chart the emergence and development of the notion, it has drawn upon various disciplines and subdisciplines such as philosophy and its history, the history of science and technology by way of case studies, the philosophy of technology, the philosophy of biology and environmental philosophy.
