Abstract
In the prewar years Mitsui Bank, in its effort to become a genuine commercial bank, gave preference to the discounting of commercial bills over loans on bills, and to short-term lending over long-term capital lending. When putting this into practice it attached great importance to conducting foreign exchange business with such major trading companies as Mitsui and Company and to securities operations on behalf of major debtors.
