Abstract

The need for another book on nationalism might appear to be doubtful, in view of the very large number which have been published in the last ten to fifteen years. However, most of these have been written by philosophers, historians and sociologists, not political scientists. What a political science approach offers is a focus on political contexts and political behaviour. In the case of nationalism, that means especially looking at states and their relationships with nations, nationalist political parties and political organisations, and the votes for nationalist parties and propositions. That is what is offered here.
