Abstract

In contrast and counterpoint to the Hollywood comedies we looked at in Chapter 3, the four films discussed in this chapter reflect a growing tendency in the 1990s to treat transgender seriously, and to portray it in sympathetic colours. Unsurprisingly, two of these were made outside the USA, while the other two are far from being typical Hollywood products.
