Abstract
The beginning of 1953 seemed to be like any other year since the inception of communism. Following the promulgation of a new constitution, in the general election for seats in the GNA on 30 November 1952, the communists obtained a majority. On 24 January 1953, the GNA elected a new Presidium which was headed by Petru Groza and a new Council of Ministers headed by Gheorghiu-Dej.
