Abstract
The lexical inferencing study deals with the way in which informants try to guess the meaning of unfamiliar words placed in a context that is comprehensible to them. The aim is to give a detailed account of an individual’s first or early encounter with a new word. Our definition of lexical inferencing is taken from Haastrup (1991: 13).
