Psychoanalytic Understandings of Masculinity and Jealousy

  • Chapter
Masculine Jealousy and Contemporary Cinema

Abstract

Psychoanalysis, with its emphasis on the unconscious and the unpredictable aspects of human behaviour, offers a useful set of theories to explore the tensions and contradictions of masculine jealousy. It also provides a valuable framework for the analysis of gender and cinema. This chapter explores the psychoanalytic approach to jealousy by bringing together issues of jealousy, masculinity and sexual difference.
