Abstract
The story told here has been in many ways a new one, revealing fresh information that may change perceptions of suffrage activity during the war, and raising new questions — many of which we cannot hope to answer. In conclusion I shall examine the reasons for the narrowness of the enfranchisement won by women in 1918, and shall look more speculatively — and also more personally — at a broader view of what may have been lost. Finally, I shall return to the women whose story this has been, giving a brief account of how they pursued their disparate visions after the war was over.
