Abstract
There is hardly a subject in Central and Eastern European studies which has gained such attention among scholars in recent years as the study of church and religion. Not only theologians and scholars of religion, but also historians, political scientists, sociologists, and others dedicate intensive attention to questions of religion in Eastern European countries; the latter seem sometimes to be interested even more in religious issues than the first. It seems as if a new field of research has been opened.
