Abstract

A stone thrown into the water creates circles on the surface; these last for a few minutes: the circles of childhood abuse may last for a lifetime. The calamitous consequences of such abuse may not be immediately visible or easy to detect; to adapt a meteorological explanation of how natural disasters may start: ‘you cut a rose and release a tornado’.2
