The New Work Theories

Abstract

The literature covering both subjects of knowledge management and intellectual capital is interdisciplinary and wide ranging. During the literature review of this subject, knowledge management is written about in the context of human resource management, culture, the learning organization, management training and intellectual capital. Subject areas covered include financial benchmarking and information technology. Its roots are difficult to determine, however, it is clear that during the 1990s both subjects enjoyed popularity in various areas. I believe that from knowledge management and intellectual capital it is possible to identify a new management discipline or paradigm. I call this simply competitive knowledge management, hence the title of this book. Figure 4.1 depicts how knowledge management is the paradigm created after linking numerous other disciplines in a theoretical model.
