Abstract

Figure 2.1 shows a virtual map of the new economy. You can see a similar map of the market updated daily at Smartmoney.com, a site for the private Internet investor. Darkness corresponds to growth in shareholder value and the size corresponds to market capitalization. Note that large parts of the old economy energy and manufacturing companies are lagging behind software and telecommunications new economy companies.
