Abstract
Dissenters who cannot achieve their political objectives through the institutions and customs of conventional politics must either give way, or continue their political battle by taking direct action which breaks the law. They may set out deliberately to break a law which they regard as unjust, or they may choose ways of pursuing their campaign which inevitably bring them into conflict with the law. In either case they commit crime. What sort of crime?
