Abstract
The classical framework of evolutionary change is based on two aspects of biological organization: phenotype and genotype. The notion of phenotype refers to the physical, organizational and behavioral expression of an organ ism during its lifetime. It emphasizes the systemic nature of biological organizations. The notion of genotype refers to a heritable repository of infor mation that instructs the production of molecules whose interactions, in conjunction with the environment, generate and maintain the phenotype.
