Chapter

Abstract

Non-governmental organizations have consolidated their role in international relations. Although their involvement in global affairs can be traced back for centuries, their activities have taken a new dimension over the course of the last decade. Intergovernmental organizations, such as the UN, increasingly provided for the participation of NGOs within their systems. Today, a greater number of NGOs have begun working with the UN, and NGOs that had already done so in the past have progressively intensified their UN relations.
