Abstract

The operational context for foreign companies trading in China consists of structures and practices which contrast with those with which such companies are likely to be familiar in their own countries. A different psychology pervades the network of administrative ways and means which are used to control this vast country. China holds out impressive inducements to foreign enterprises to set up in business in China but they are expected to conform to Chinese protocol in the legal and financial spheres. This chapter overviews some of the variables involved.
