In a business environment the use of the term ‘spies’ would be considered emotive. However, what we hope is apparent by this stage is that development of an effective strategy relies on knowledge and how it is interpreted and used. In a military context, it would be impossible not to consider the crucial importance of intelligence gathering. It should be no different in a commercial environment; however, one should acknowledge that the methods that might be acceptable to the military would not be appropriate for business.
