Abstract

More than any other colour, blue dominates magazine covers, advertisements and product packaging. In fashion spreads and catwalk shows, it is frequent to bathe the models in a blue light and the same procedure is used for the photographs of celebrities which accompany magazine interviews. It is striking that a practice which has become so common still manages to have the consequence of making the subject seem rare and exclusive. Blue always suggests enigma, mystery and absence.
