The previous chapter introduced a learning model that provides a comprehensive description of human learning behaviour and appears in the literature in many forms.1 We can now go one level of abstraction higher — how can we improve the quality of learning? Learning itself often represents an improvement in quality (‘creation of new knowledge’), so improving the quality of learning is a matter of the ‘quality of quality’, or learning to learn.
