Abstract
‘The Hesperides’, which appeared in Tennyson’s 1832 Poems but was not reprinted in his lifetime, reworks classical stories about the Hesperidean Sisters. The poem appears gnomic. But its intensely focussed mytholoizing holds a pressing metaphysical argument.
