Part of the St Antony’s Series book series

This book has attempted to bring out the import of social struggle and power configurations for understanding the interweaving of social and physical-natural processes. However, we sought to avoid the reification of the empirical manifestations of the struggle, as our interest has been to deploy the concept as a heuristic device to capture the multidimensional and long-term character of the processes under consideration. Therefore, although the research was triggered by our interest in understanding the meaning of the conflicts over water recorded in the Basin of Mexico during the 1980s and 1990s we have placed these events in the wider context of the struggle over citizenship.
