Abstract
This chapter draws on the diagnosis of “Where are we now?” covered in Chapters 2 and 3 and enables us to work through the question, “What changes do we need to make?” as we move into the future. We start by emphasizing external and internal factors that should be kept in mind as we build that future to ensure both short-run and long-run success. From there, a process for generating a range of possible change alternatives and evaluating these alternatives is presented. Using this process will encourage us to consider the changes in all the different facets of the SOC wheel that we need to pursue now, while simultaneously creating a powerful platform for the future. Note that in this chapter, we don’t yet get into how changes are going to be implemented. This is covered, from various perspectives, in the remaining six chapters of the book.
